I feel I just saw a production produced by high school drama students. And they didn't use a Steadicam. They must have used a Shakicam. Let's shoot the whole thing hand held. I prayed for a steady shot anywhere! And why can't we recruit people who can sing on key? Russel Crowe as a singer? Give me a break! I yearned for a Sarah Briteman or even a Bette Midler or even a Linda Ronstadt. And this constant singing and no dialog. The production design is stellar, the makeup and costuming is very good but just a shoddy attempt at cinematography and directorial capability. Jerome Robbins where are you! Ray

family wanted to see it so I went. After all, I like music, I like movies, and I'd seen the promo a few times, so why not.
And I thought it was pretty awful, almost laughably over the top.
The promo made the point that actors could emote if they sang the songs in real time. And boy oh boy did the actors get to emote!
I think probably if you have listened to the music for years and love it, you'd probably like it fine. A friend of mine said how she was moved to tears.
I will say that for a long movie, I did not find it slow or plodding. Just way overdone to the point of self-parody.
I don't have an interest in it and would probably find it painful to watch. A friend's son saw it 4 times the first weekend and dragged everyone he knew. A musical has to be REALLY good for me to tolerate it -- Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Willy Wonka (original), Scrooge (1970) and just a few others.
...and rooted for the stars of it during the Golden Globes.
I was not interested in seeing it.
The director is another with a Best Picture nomination but no Best Director nod.
already available below...practically direct to disc. No desire to see this.

Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.
Everything is starting to find its way to blu-ray quickly these days. Wasn't always the case.

I couldn't agree more. Awful!
waiting for features to start. That was enough.
EVERYTHING reads and looks wrong there.
No way can I see that improving one iota with viewing.
