This may be old news to you film guys, but I just heard that someone is working on a remake of The Rockford Files, with Vince Vaughn as Rockford.
Follow Ups:
Some remakes are good, I think. I thought the new Total Recall was interesting (people building the machines that oppress them (think predators).
What I think is wrong is when they do not say that it's a remake and young people don't know that they are watching a remake. That seems somewhat fraudulent to me. Rarely have I seen reference to the original on a remake (end credits or wherever).

It's based on George Lucas.

So I didn't have room in the title line to put his entire name.
You knew who I meant didn't you?

Now...is that anyway to behave at rock-n-roll show??

That's the problem. If Hollywood could see the flaws in the crap it has made, there might be some push to make something better instead of constant, increasingly poor regurgitations and remakes.

There are more theaters, up-charges for 3d and inflation.
Hollywood does not get continually more profitable.
Adjusted for inflation the most successful movie of all time is 'Gone With The Wind'.

(you may note the population now is 7 billion compared to what, 3 something in the GWTW era?) and the rise of DVD, streaming, and cable.
I repeat: Hollywood is flush as never before.
Garner could cover that ground. I'm not sure Vaughn is the right guy to copy that.
Maybe Bradley Cooper or Cloney?
If they could bring back Stuart Margolin as Angel, it wouldn't matter who plays Rockford.
Thats funny when I first heard of this I started thinking of who would be better and Clooney came to mind, even though Rockford was a funny character he still had a toughness to him a Travis Mcgee type. I would not like to see this made into slapstick.Who should play Rocky?
Have you seen the recent hot-rod offerings from the big 3? Rehashed designs from the 60's.
If they make the Rockford movie a comedy it just might work. Interesting....
Garner was nearly a scratch player
fwiw
I bet Garner could out drive him in a car.

Vince's offbeat, quirky personality might be a perfect update for the Rockford character. I'd want to see it.
...and own a piece of the pie, if there is one.
