If your girl friend is actually your wife (and you are 50+) this movie is a must. Gandolfini and Dreyfus play their classic selves in this romantic(?) comedy about being divorced and trying to find love.
Gandolfini and Keener are divorced and through twists of fate Dreyfus becomes Keener's masseuse while starting to date Gandolfini. Naturally all the girl talk starts to affect their budding relationship which comes to an embarrassing end for Dreyfus. This Tony Soprano dates Elaine is cleverly written and ends when it should (time wise). Toni Collette does a good turn as Dreyfus' best friend and Ben Falcone is her highly inappropriate husband who provides a few laughs.
Give it a shot.

Interesting. While I agree it's funny and well done, I was disappointed, given all the great reviews I'd seen. Specifically, I found the Louis-Dreyfus character quite difficult to like. She was understandable, certainly, but the movie would have been much better, for me, if she had manifested more remorse and compassion near the end of the movie. I realize maybe it would have been unrealistic, but I wanted to see more growth in her character.
Elaine is as Elaine does.
This was a movie...written and directed by other people. It wasn't her acting that bothered me. It was the script and directing.
...if you'd watched all 3 seasons of Veep.
What the hell does that have to do with the movie?
...I haven't seen the movie yet.
Sounds like you're saying she plays "Elaine" in the film.
I'm just saying she has played other parts and has more depth and acting ability.
Like she shows on Veep.
She plays an older, slightly more mature Elaine in my view but still a bit of a goof. Don't have cable so I've never seen VEEP. Maybe NF will have it someday.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
...actually I'm a huge Louise-Dreyfus fan, too.
I'm a huge Louise-Dreyfus fan as well. She's smart, funny, good looking... what's not to like. I've never seen anything with Gandolfini, so this will be my intro.,
Dean.
