I started the film... and ended it... being irritated... but then it grew on me. Very good film, even if derivative.

I'd say he's immortally so. And the scene wherein he puts the bragging woman in her place has great depth, not a little of which is ironic.
...so I don't recall that particular episode, but you don't need to twist my arm, I liked it, mostly for its, admittedly derivative, flavor. Perhaps some day will revisit it - would love to. It is the type of a movie that warrants multiple viewings, it is hart to catch all of its many sub-plots on the fly.
