Eraserhead/bluray/criterion collection coming soon. Also includes a great 2001 documentary on the film which I watched a few years back on youtube. The relationship between Lynch and Mel Brooks is particularly interesting. (If you don't know the story I won't give it away.)

But I remember it as being a low-key nightmare captured on screen. I believe he has total recall of his dream life that's where his off-center, if not bizarre, images and story lines come from.
That crying baby sound during the end of the movie nearly drove me bonkers.

Not my favorite Lynch film either, but I'll buy it for the photography alone, which is stunning.
From the wiki page for eraserhead:
"While working on The Elephant Man, Lynch met American director Stanley Kubrick, who revealed to Lynch that Eraserhead was his favorite film.[74] Eraserhead also served as an influence on Kubrick's 1980 film The Shining; Kubrick reportedly screened the film for the cast and crew to "put them in the mood" that he wanted the film to achieve.[75] Eraserhead is also credited with influencing the 1990 Japanese cyberpunk film Tetsuo: The Iron Man, the experimental 1990 horror film Begotten, and Darren Aronofsky's 1998 directorial debut Pi.[76][77][78] Swiss surrealist H. R. Giger cited Eraserhead as "one of the greatest films [he had] ever seen",[79] and said that it came closer to realizing his vision than even his own films.[80] According to Giger, Lynch declined to collaborate with him on Dune because he felt Giger had "stolen his ideas"."
