Best Actor - Keaton does dramedy very well.
Supporting Actor - Norton gets recognized for playing himself!
Best Picture - So much creativity packed into the width and depth of a Broadway theater.
Best Director - Getting this script on film that appears to be a single shot was miraculous. All the actors were superb--all of them.
There five other nominations as well.

Puzzled: 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' also received nine nominations. I had not one urge to see it a second time. There could be discussion of its merits, I suppose.
Follow Ups:
sensational w/out any dramatic theme justifying it.
If you want a truly great film about acting, see Olivier in "The Entertainer."
for his play to be a success. Everything was done for a purpose and only the hospital scene was the only one shot outside the confines of the theater.

why don't you come over to "Central" once and awhile? A few bike threads would certainly be welcome, or an update on general Maine news...
I am a Ralph Fiennes fan and it was great to see him play something wildly different and execute it so delightfully. I felt he deserved a nomination when I saw it and was glad to see him get a Golden Globe nomination.
But the movie itself I have to agree with you - it was good in its own way (6 or 7 out of 10) but nominated for best film? Either the competition was truly pathetic or the academy saw something more in this movie than I did - maybe I need to see it again. I kept thinking as I was watching it that there could be so much more to this movie but I never discovered it.
I'd have rather Ralph been nominated for "In Bruges" as a supporting actor - I loved him in that movie which went completely under the radar.
I thought Grand Budapest was a joke. A bad joke, can't believe it was nominated for anything.

Unusual movie - it might take more familiarity with his style, to appreciate his art?

desire to sit thru the whole silly (at least based on first impressions) thing. I'm afraid Wes' schtick has worn thin with many of us.
