...with their newest awesome technology.
Will better technology lure you back?
No doubt it will cost more.
I haven't been to an IMAX theater in a long time but I did just see Mad MAx in XD 3D which was pretty cool.
What it would take for me to go back to the movies more is better films not better technology.
Follow Ups:
My wife is a Jude Law fan so last night we rented "Black Sea".
Their submarine breaks down, needs a 'driveshaft' just so happens there's an abandoned sub sitting on the bottom nearby, so they put on their diving gear and walk over to it and remove its 'driveshaft' to use in their sub.
The prop used for these scenes is an automotive crankshaft, shown carried into their sub by hand and installed in an upside down automotive engine block. Then, without any main bearing caps installed the crankshaft is shown spinning as they get underway.
I can't believe that got past everyone involved in making that movie.
The last scene is equally preposterous but a potential spoiler.
I understand that liberties must be taken, but here a piece of pipe would have sufficed without attracting attention to such a gaff.
Only if it involves some sort of audience control.
Maybe some sort of laser device that zaps big mouths, plastic bag rustlers, idiots
with phones, know-it-alls that can't shut up, etc.
Certainly the worst part of going to the movies is the behavior of the audience.

Interstellar...had to see it twice because I could NOT hear the dialog at the XD Theater...granted it shook my molars loose...but I had to real lips...
American Sniper, (aka Natural Born Killer) saw that in Dolby Atmos, very cool and totally immersive sound scape...(it did win two Oscar's for sound)...But I did not see this because of Atmos...Plan on seeing Tomorrowland in Atmos...(I only know one theater here in the Twin Cities with Atmos)
Birdman...LOVED the sound of trap drum set and how they moved it around the room...no Dolby needed here...
When I did have a HT...I much preferred DTS over Dolby or THX...right now I am strictly 2 channel and my Maggies do a pretty good job throwing sound around my room...to the point my friends were looking for surround speakers...
Yes...it will take more than great sound to get me to a movie...I agree let's work on the content and let the sound and picture enhance a good story with flushed out characters...what a novel idea...
Thanks
Mark

"E Burres Stigano?"
Hmm, that seems to be a thing with him. Cataclysmic action.

"E Burres Stigano?"
Not a chance. To see things like San Andreas with an octave lower of rumbling sound or some other Hollywood bull shit? Nah. The dynamic range is already often too high making the loud too loud and passages of dialog often too quiet.E

Hate the 20 minutes of crappy previews, hate the sound turn way the f*ck up too high, hate the 3d.
65" Panny plasma and a really good sound system are it for me now.
I do miss going to the movies but not enough to pay the high prices for all the aggravation.

it's loud enough as it is. Seems to me theater sound is based on grumbling one's guts not singing sweet songs of poetry.
It's about time Indie's sued the Hollywood machine which is actually a tightly held monopoly. Socialize film, give everyone some cash and distribution. Yeah, we need a Marxist Film League.
Blow Jobs for all my men"..(insert manacle laugh here)...
I watched an interview with Spacey not that long ago, he summarized it like this...
1. Television has hijacked all the really great writers. Potential to tell a more developed stories and characters
2. Television has more daring producers than the film industry and willing to take risks on a good story and multidimensional characters...
3. Since it is a copycat industry...Super Hero movies are taking up all the production money, but have the potential for the greatest profits...aka merchandising, product placements, sequels and spin-off franchises...yada...yada...yada...
I watched Best in Show last night...I much preferred it over the Age of Ultron...
Thanks
