Recommend decent movies?? instead of talking about junk?? :)
Follow Ups:
No particular order...
Paul Bart Mall Cop I&II...by far Kevin James greatest work, I expect big things out of number III also
Showgirls...Director Paul Verhoeven is at the pinnacle of his game in this one
Cut Throat Island...Paul Verhoeven gets a double shout out...nothing says swashbuckling adventure like Gina Davies and Mathew Modine...
Battlefield Earth...John Travolta acting and directing in this one, is there anything he can't do...the Scientology Genesis Story...this is the movie that converted me
Ishtar...whenever I am feeling down, nothing cheers me like the comedy due of Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beauty...chemistry is just too small a word...these two actors share one soul...
The Adventures of Pluto Nash...Eddie Murphy just killing it...
Caddy Shack II...sad to say Jackie Mason's last appearance in the movies...Dan Aykroyd turns in one of the all time reserved subtle performances here...don't know how the Academy missed this one...
Sheena...Tanya Roberts was completely fenced in by Charles Angles, (the TV series), given the right vehicle for her kind of artistic expression, she was able to soar in this one...
King Kong...Peter Jackson took the first two versions of this out to the wood shed...every blink Jack Black makes in this one has purpose...who knew a raised eyebrow could open my heart...
Anytime you want a great movie recommendation just let me know...I have plenty more where that came from...
I hope this helps...Just between you and I...there are some very very low brow knuckle dragging movie "experts" on this board...I won't mention any names...BW, KM, VK, FR, RW, U510, RGA, PJ, AuPh...I would not let these guys pick my nose...let alone a movie...
Now...Movies to avoid...
Ex Machina...aka Weird Science...
Birdman...he fly's...whoop-ty do
The Imitation Game...oh look I built a computer...
The Tree of Life...somebody please turn up the volume...
Whiplash...aka...Bad Teacher...
The Theory of Everything...English smarty pants...
Lost in Translation...I think I'm turning Japanese...I think I'm turning Japanese...I really think so...
Lincoln...I am Daniel Day Lewis and I grew a beard...lot-tee-da...
I would not watch any of this drivel...
thanks for the great question...
Mark
It had some Godawful scenes in it, where I was embarrassed for the cast, but the good was pretty freekin good. Loved Rogen's mother. I occasionally still watch it when it's shown late at night when my brain is on cruise control.

"E Burres Stigano?"
I vaguely remember that one...I will put it on my list...
thanks

Doug...I have seen this more than once...SSSSShhhhhhh...but I disagree PV was pretty straight faced when this came out...
Also, I am a closet Bring it On...fan...Cheerleaders...Eliza Dushku and Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union...something about a "spirit stick" I just found very humorous...and never letting go and hit the ground...rules to live by...
Thanks
Mark
LOL
For myself I appreciate reviews of the big budget flicks. I've been saved from spending money and time on some that sucked and have been turned onto some that I had incorrectly dismissed as typical Hollywood fluff ("Spy" for 1, wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed it).
You're free to not click on the big budget titles but I for one am glad we've got a brave poster or two who do the heavy lifting on the big Hollywood flicks.

I too wish we would focus on good titles most don't see or know about. We all get the barrage of marketing on all levels for the blockbusters. Everyone though should be able to talk about what they want. I just wish they wanted to talk about better films and not just what is "now playing".E
TTitles Every Film Fan Should See
*Being There
*The Conversation
*Montenegro
*Night of the Hunter
*Cape Fear (the original)
*ShampooA good starting list and I'll add the Brit film The Wipers Times w/Michael Palin et al.Review below. Based on a true story in WW I
""When Captain Fred Roberts discovered a printing press in the ruins of Ypres, Belgium in 1916, he decided to publish a satirical magazine called The Wipers Times - "Wipers" being army slang for Ypres. Full of gallows humor, The Wipers Times was poignant, subversive and very funny. Produced literally under enemy fire and defying both authority and gas attacks, the magazine proved a huge success with the troops on the Western Front. It was, above all, a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity. In his spare time Roberts also managed to win the Military Cross for gallantry. """

Thanks that looks like an interesting list and I will definitely get some of the movies.
I'd love to hear what you think of any of those.

I was just going to suggest to the OP that he spend some time tuning in TCM.
That's QUALITY time, most all the time.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
they show good stuff anytime but do not miss the Mondays
.
I enjoy a good series now and then but they seem to have dried out lately
The only one I did enjoy that was pretty good was the BBC series
"Line of duty" 1 and 2 in total 11 episodes, very well acted )as usual with the British stuff) sometimes a little complicated but if follow it
through everything falls into place.
As I said superb acting.
Orphan Black (More than a little complicated)
The Honourable Woman
Broadchurch
And from the French,
Le Revenants (American remake, The Returned)
