I guess in Roddenberry's Star Trek universe, humans aren't the only semi intelligent bipeds warping about the galaxy.
If we stick to the ST movies here is a short list:
Vulcan
Romulan (Vulcan relative)
Cardassian
Forengi
Klingon
Borg
just to name a few of the more frequently encountered aliens. But there are dozens more. I kind of liked the character Odo in the Deep Space Nine series. Species: Founder Changeling. An interesting shape shifter who's natural state resembled that of an oozing puddle of tar.
re: Dr. Spock
I guess you'd have to be old enough to remember that baby doctor; Dr. Spock. A prominent media personality circa 1950's and 1960's. Definitely, he's not a Vulcan. IIRC, Roddenberry deliberately borrowed the name Spock for his Vulcan character from the famous baby doctor.

When the convicts are taking Nathan Jr., the grab the Dr. Spock book...
Love that scene...

The Terminator.
The Blob (original, NOT any remake!)
That Darn Cat.
The U.S.S. Enterprise (no Enterprise, no Data).
Robby the Robot.
Frank Bullitt's Mustang.
Black Beauty, Seabisquit, Hidalgo.
Lt. Columbo's coat (though that's more TV).
Yeah, the shark in Jaws...
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
The Terminator...(original ONLY)
The Blob (original, NOT any remake!)("The Blob ate my dog man" fav line from that movie)
That Darn Cat.(??? just have not seen it)
The U.S.S. Enterprise (no Enterprise, no Data).(HHHmmmm...was it a character??? Symbol of exploration?)(Millennium Falcon..."We'll take the Princes out on the Falcon"...)
Robby the Robot. (???)
Frank Bullitt's Mustang. (OK)
Black Beauty, Seabisquit, Hidalgo. (OK)
Lt. Columbo's coat (though that's more TV). (Would Indiana Jones Fedora qualify then?)
Yeah, the shark in Jaws... (this has affected me to this DAY)

Good stuff...although I may not agree with them all...
Thanks
Mark
Great take on The Tempest, the introduction of Krell and a groundbreaking soundtrack by Louis and Bebe Barron.
You can picture Indiana Jones sans hat. Not true of Columbo's coat.
"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination" -Michael McClure
"When 900 years old you reach, look as good, you will not."
Learn...I will...

This one in the movie "WestWorld" Yul Brenner as an android gunslinger
There must be something from the "Matrix" trilogy world we can use....oh yes ...The Frenchman..er...Merovingian. An interesting character that posed as a program. Liked to curse in French because he felt it more elegant. Plus other invasive tendencies he exhibited in the 2nd movie of that franchise.
Then there is Agent Smith..... more interesting in the first movie than those that followed.
btw, have we taken the time to compare between The Matrix and Tron. I think The Matrix borrows some key elements in its 'matrix' environment from the earlier movie Tron.
Huey, Dewey & Lewie....Silent Running.
Tin Man, Wizard of Oz
Robby the Robot.....Forbidden Planet
From the movie Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxie: Marvin.
Marvin is very quotable.
Marvin: "It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level."
"I've calculated your chance of survival, but I don't think you'll like it."
"Sorry, did I say something wrong? Pardon me for breathing which I never do anyway so I don't know why I bother to say it oh God I'm so depressed."
etc.
From the original Robocop:
From the movie "Metropolis" 1927
the false Maria...
Probably this movie is worth a thread on its own. The most recent reconstruction of the film is out on Blu Ray and boasts recently discovered film footage found in Argentina....figures if we look at a little bit of 20th century world history.
Roy Batty from the movie Blade Runner (1982)
The other day I took some cheap shots at the actors performance in this movie. then I proceded to watch the 'last version' of the film on DVD. Now I think Rutger Hauer's performance was entirely adequate for the film. The final 20 minutes of the film were indeed quite terrifying.
I can probably dig up some more. The internet is rich in movie details. but these characters sort of worked for me.

Missed that one...and is one of my favs...always like the entrance he made in the pic above...
Merovingian...great one...Lambert Wilson...IMDB...has him playing Jacques Cousteau in an upcoming biopic...
Marvin, excellent...
Roy, yep...
Yul, blink...
Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, well, not much to say there...
As always...good stuff Steve...
Thanks

My wife's alternative reaction: "Those are a couple of BAD robots!"
...1958 Plymouth Fury.Next to Ava, of course.
Edits: 06/24/15
"no shitter, ever came between him and Christine"
Communication from 50's radio songs...good stuff...
Ava is pretty high up the food chain for me also...I need to change my original rating I gave Ex Machina...I gave it a 3.95 out of 5 stars...since then, the movie has been running around in brain, still... it deserves 4.5 just for that...
In my original review, I stated I wanted that movie 20 minutes longer for more interviews with Ava and Caleb...and more back story of Nathan...still believe that...
This is an FYI...Alica Vikander is Fastbender's girlfriend...she must have seen Shame... wink wink...
thanks
