Last episode ( 1.7 ) featured a couple of interesting turns.
Midway through the episode we see Mr. Robot meeting with Tyrell in the limo. By their speech and mannerisms it appears they've been in cahoots for some time. But we don't know about what, exactly. At episodes' end we find Elliot and Darleen ( from fsociety ) talking. Talking as if they have a close relationship. And then it comes to the surface that Elliot seems to remember Darleen is his sister. Talk about off the wall! Or out of the blue. Or does it fit?...!
What if Elliot is just an average network engineer working a hum drum job and all this hacker drama is just a dream within Elliot's overworked imagination. Like a hi-tek take on Walter Mitty.

SPOILER CITYAfter episode 1.8 I gotta ask; who is Mr. Robot?
1) Just some terrorist/hacker dude out to change the world through a massive redistribution of funds?
2) Elliot's Dad? In episode 1.7 it is revealed in the last couple minutes that he is.
3) Elliot himself. And the father figure (Mr. Robot) is just another of Elliot's delusions.
What about the shrink sessions? Why was Elliot compelled to take regular sessions with a psychologist? Up to this point that question hasn't been answered. We just took it in with all the other details.
Now we have another clue. Elliot's Dad may in fact be dead. And not from natural causes. It might have been a homicide in which Elliot himself may have been involved. The details we've been allowed to witness still keep this detail in the murk. But this could have been the cause for the shrink sessions.
Last episode (1.7) it was revealed that Darleen was Elliot's sister. That was as awakening as having a bomb go off nearby. And as noted in item 2 above, Elliot finds an old dvd filed with family photos and comes to learn, after viewing them, that Mr. Robot is indeed his father. Or perhaps -was- . In this episode we find Elliot standing beside his fathers gravestone when Darleen and Angela finally catch up with him. It is here that Elliot comes to remember his father's death.
But,.....why wasn't Elliot fully aware of his family history? Answer; His psychologist had him on a regimen of prescription drugs that fogged his memory of his past. Something very traumatic had happened. And now, with his shrink sessions finally done, (the psychologist had pronounced him as having successfully completed these sessions), we the audience are viewing the world through Elliot's eyes and understanding his world through his narrative. And Elliot is now off his meds!
Is he coming out of his delusions and seeing his reality for the first time? yes, it seems so. But not all at once.
It seems that last weeks' meeting between Mr. Robot and Tyrell in the limo was another of Elliot's delusions. I am leaning to believe that it was Elliot himself meeting with Tyrell. In effect all scenes happening with Mr. Robot, as played by Christian Slater have been, in actuality, Elliot interacting with his various cohorts and partners in his schemes against Evil Corp. Elliot is their leader!
Frankly, I can't help but feel as if I've been lied to. Such a compelling beginning to this series, as this has been, turns out to be, largely, the delusional imaginings within a disturbed mind.
Further thoughts;
In a later scene Darleen is going out to refill his prescriptions. Will Elliot go back on his meds so that he can continue his delusions? Or will he choose to embrace reality? In either case, weeding out fact from fantasy from here forward is bound to be fraught with even more misdirection. This screenwriter-director has been insincere from the get-go. Next episode, 1.9, is the season finale. I'm in til then. But if 1.9 turns out to have less substance, less meat----to be more delusional than real----, I might be out from thereafter. It all depends.-Steve

it can lead to the Wizard of Oz ending, all just a dream. Which seemed to work for that movie, but would not in general be accepted.
Well, it has been quite probable for a long time that Mr. Robot was not a real physical human. Remember he just showed up at high security firm Allsafe, and then later when Elliot was being guarded by murderous thugs, he just showed up again on his stairs. I argued this point with my friend, who rightly pointed out some instances where Mr. Robot seemed to physically interact. But still, it seemed likely to me that he was some sort of delusion.
So yes, many if not most people saw this coming. So what is real and what is delusion? At this point, we cannot know.
So far, for me, they are walking this line with a lot of storytelling skill.
The big reveals last week had my friend calling me late at night. This is the kind of involvement that is rare with a TV show. And I thought the prison break with the ending for Shyla was about as tense and great as TV gets.
I think it's been a great season and I expect a pretty great final show next week. I have no idea where this can all go in season 2. But I will definitely be watching it.
But this show, totally spanked me...as I said earlier...I missed allot of the tells and foreshadowing...really off my game on this one...
But...hey for network USA summer fill series...it is damn good TV...
Tun...also good insights...as of now...I am Sargent Schultz on this one...
thanks
Mark
I may be ok with it...
I do feel a little naïve and gave Elliot much more credence than I should have...I still need to watch the whole episode again...
But yeah...I believe Elliot is Mr. Robot and did meet with Tyrell...Him and Tyrell on the closing scene back at the arcade was pretty telling...
Tyrell is doing a great job of being complete sociopath, with a great element of danger and unpredictability...that kind of makes you hold your breath...
Great synopsis Steve and once again good call...
Thanks
Mark
I'm not too keen on this social engineering re: LGBT and, supposedly, subjecting the public to the intimate realities of such relationships. ... as a kind of conditioning to get everyone used to it. I could do completely without that. And that is another separate issue to be discussed on another forum.
re: Elliot and his mental condition. There is a wag out on the internet that speculates that Elliot may have been brain-washed ,ala Manchurian Candidate, by his father to get back at the corporation that ultimately led to his death. But that is another individual's speculation and I'm not buying into it until I see where the next episode goes.
Crazy stuff.

I was on the damn phone for most of the episode, so I have to watch it again...
But from the gist I got...you were pretty close to nailing it...
I felt I needed to acknowledge that...
thanks

Last week there was a lower energy episode after the jailbreak and I thought this might be hitting a slow patch. But damn it came back stronger than ever. There is so much I like about this including that Elliot talks to us, the viewers, as observers who are detached.
I have no clue what is real and what is imaginary but it has been made very clear that Elliot's view of the world is very delusional, and thus our view through his eyes is not to be trusted one bit. I suspect it will still be ambiguous at seasons end and that's OK with me.
...
Mr. Robot and Tyrell, did not see that coming...at all...no hint at the connection or their motivations...
The Police at Tyrell's place to question him about the murders and his wife "injury's" herself so Tyrell can't be questioned at that time...she has some major dedication and skin in the game not yet revealed...
Now, fsociety broadcast during Elliot's work so he can get into in his bosses office...then gets totally busted by the boss for not watching the broadcast...left hanging there...
Now Darlene "knows"??? Elliot is her brother??? Elliot does not realize this until he tries to kiss her...WTH...
Then totally freaks out back at his place...looks at family photo's and realizes Mr. Robot is his DAD!!??!! That was suppose to be killed an industrial accident, along with his home girl Angela, (who also lost a parent from the same industrial accident and is confronting Terry Colby, the busted CTO of E-Corp), which has been his motivation for all he does with getting even with E-Corp... You just can't make that kind of sh!t up...
Elliot is one of the best drawn anti-heroes I have ever seen...his inner monologue let's you hear his own confusion, paranoia and what is propelling him one minute at a time...
Damn, this is well written...the handheld camera work sets the chaos and irony of the close-up's of Elliot's bland emotionless face...his monotone voice with no inflection never tips the cards...only his words...great stuff for a USA network summer fill in show...
There is still allot of meat on this bone and only 2 episodes left...
Now...Steve...I am not saying your theory is BS...but damn I would be pissed if it was true...too many human dominos have fell to bring us to this point...lots of questions and no where near enough answers...
I do see a major cliff hanger coming in the final episode...have no idea what that might be...but they just took the lid off the blender and let it spray everywhere...who knows what is going to stick to the walls...
This is some really good network TV...
thanks
Mark
