In Reply to: RE: Hateful Eight, Quentin gets too talky for the first half then a fun bloodbath (surprise) a lesser film by Q nt posted by PhilJ on December 31, 2015 at 09:53:16
I thought the movie was decadent and long. I liked the look of it. I'm just not sure I get the message Tarantino is really sending, if he's sending. He loves the Spaghetti Western genre so much, and the existential sh*t just goes over my head. That being said, I had a few laughs, and felt guilty at being violently entertained by it. Guilty like a diabetic eating a creme brûlée. Happy 2016, film fiends. Loved The Revenant and Spotlight, too.

...but it's very intense. Some of the violence is mind boggling, but it's a not a throw away, like a QT movie. Spirituality, and the battle between man and the forces of nature are prominent elements in the drama. Also, prominent is the depiction of the destruction of the indigenous population, i.e.... the Native Americans. Very painful to watch. It will stay with me for a while, and that's saying something for a Hollywood flick. Regards.
