In case anyone missed this movie on the big screen.
Jazz singer turned Pop icon.
Fabulous (rated R for tRagedy, evidently).
Follow Ups:
seeing the real story of a person being slowly consumed by fame and drugs. I was also surprised at how unattractive she really was.
It's a good teaching tool of teenage girls who think being at the top is all there is.
It WASN'T the fame. She appeared to be heading towards that outcome no matter what. Appears to be her upbringing/disposition.Yes, she was UGLY. But NOT AFRAID of the camera much. Good for her (except for the drugs).
I found the portrayal captivating at a number of levels, but especially liked their captions of the actual words because she is really hard to understand when she sings OR speaks!

Nobody is ugly.
Bill
We're so used to the dolls that can't sing, that we need to comment on this, and you're correct, she was NOT ugly. She was called 'shit-faced' at the end, which should be inducement to anyone NOT to overdo drugs!
