Holy Moly, not bad. Did not stink on ice. Sure, it was silly (recurring word this cycle of releases) but it was beautifully filmed in Roma with a cast of a thousand cameos. So many cameos it seems to prove Stiller is one of the most well-connected guys around.
The film's opening sequence starts with one of the most joyous moments ever filmed. Then, it settles into showing us Derek and Hansel who have separately chosen isolation as a way of life. Suddenly, Billy Zane arrives and delivers them their Netflix envelopes and a Star Wars-type summoning to Roma. They start their journey and are soon involved in so many tiny plot asises the film becomes a matter of counting and giggling at all the celebs who volunteered for cameos.
Well done for a comedy that satirizes itself. I would give it 2.5 outta 5 -- with a big caution.
Follow Ups:
Zoolander the first was so gay-strange it made me flinch often enough to be classified as a nervous tic. But above all it was funny to the core. Stiller and Wilson can work a crowd. If they tap into that synergy again, then this must be worth the effort to see.
Stiller has promoted this one with various tv commercials for cars and stuff. When he vogues like that, time stops for another wtf? moment.
