How do they build and operate any thing? Even the blobs and slithering tentacles?

Also, what did the Aliens eat beside each Other? Or the creatures on Riddick's Planet? Evolution is not kind outside our Solar System.

    Originally they performed mind melds with a parallel but intellectually inferior humanoid population to do their bidding on the home planet. Going forward they continue the mind melds with other humanoid populations they encounter to exploit resources and continue construction projects.
