....it's pretty cerebral with a slow and sure pace. I found it thought provoking at multiple levels in spite of a few serious plot holes. Overall, it's a fairly atypical sci-fi in the context of today's action oriented, explosion laden blockbuster production. Good entertainment and I can understand why critics liked it but I think current events are working against mass appeal.

...Although "Star Trek" was an interesting take on the times, in retrospect most episodes strike me as preachy morality plays. "Outer Limits" (and "Arrival") much less so regarding the preachy part. And by "cerebral" I mean to suggest some real-time thinking is required to best enjoy "Arrival". I wonder if the current zeitgeist properly supports mainstream entertainment requiring thought as opposed to mindless, visceral, gut thumping action and violence.
