He is a true one hit wonderwhosomehow manages to get financial backing for his endless turkeys. He's the only guy alive who is worse than Stephen King.
Follow Ups:
Back in the 1980's I read a few of King's novels.....and liked them. However the movie versions of same never had the same involvement for me. So....if the only exposure to King's work is through the movies,.....I could see the negative impression."The Stand" was an epic read. The TV mini-series version of that novel, I found to be lacking and not anywhere near as involving.
"The Dead Zone"...another turd of a movie but the novel was great.
Since then I generally don't bother to see any Stephen King movies, or that recent TV series (The Dome).

Outside of "seeing dead people" what was the other Night goodie?
Unbreakable was pretty good - not great, but pretty good.
The visit until half(?) way in when we figured out the twist (which both Mrs. Nasty and I had suspected earlier). I guess the second then would be composed of a few good moments here and there from several movies of his. But yea, the seeing all them dead peeps movie was his only certifiable # uno.

Signs. I enjoyed that one. Signs and Sense. The rest pretty much suck.
King has supplied enough material for decades worth of great films still to be made.
Shyamalan is a sham.
