I was careful not to add any overt spoilers in my op, and I will try not to add any now.

Yes, Covenant leaves room for a sequel, or even a series of sequels. The new dynamic added to the reboot is that there is now a determined effort and plan to exterminate the human race. This much of a spoiler, I think, won't spoil it for those who have not seen Covenant yet.
