Quirky John Bernthal is made to order for this vengeance machine epic. The supporting cast is good with Amber Rose Revah, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ben Barnes serving up great performances.
The story now involves a rogue CIA funded unit of Marines performing off the grid assassinations. When Bernthal found out the truth his family was assassinated and Bernthal missed. Thus, the Punisher.
You like your action, blood, violence, brutality, and BLOOD, this is the miniseries for you. Let's just say this is a "guy thing" but it does have a strong feminine side to the story as well.
I got my kicks from this well written and directed story. Man up and hit Netflix for a quick thirteen episodes.
Follow Ups:
I enjoyed it immensely. In spite of the 'Marvel' moniker in front of the rest of the series title, this treatment of it has one part grounded in the realm of plausibility, while its other parts are allowed to go completely over the top. Production values are high. The script writing seems smart. The style of production is engaging. And I liked the soundtrack.
At the final episode it does seem as though this is a good place to stop the series. Story told. Resolution achieved, if very darkly. But I haven't checked to see if there will be a second season. If there is, I'd watch.
Other notes:
There are previous movies based on this Marvel Comic Book.
1989 The Punisher with Dolph Lundgren as Frank Castle
2004 The Punisher with Thomas Jane as Frank Castle
2008 The Punisher with Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle
I've seen the 2004 and 2008 versions. Both enjoyable. Although the 2008 version with Stevenson was more 'comic book fantastic' than the 2004 version. I haven't see the 1989 Dolph Lundgren version, but I would not have high expectations for it since Lundgren typically worked in low budget/low quality productions most of his career. Sorry Dolph if you're reading this.

but not for long.
...
but less blood than the ridiculous Walking Dead (which became a bore after two seasons) and also bore Bernthal.
Taut direction/plot, satisfyingly "dark" and, yep, that cast is solid.
Great Marvel production quality and an intelligent series to breeze through.

...didn't capture my interest.

And the movie is based on a comic book series. Thomas Jane played the same role, govt agent Frank Castle avenging his family. Good stuff if having a bad day and needing to purge.
