a low-budget, flat-acted, miserly representation of the great evacuation. I just recently Red Boxed it and decided it is the worst thing Nolan has ever attempted.
It has all the charm and excitement of those Brit WW2 movies made in the 50's and 60's. Only it's in color.

I disagree, but not in argument , I am a solidly pro fun guy, and also dig movies.
I do feel the objection misplaced. It was you who miniaturized the film, it was designed as a 70 mm wide screen theatrical presentation. Like wearing clothes that don't fit, it changes the experience, grand piano or fender rhodes, they are both pianos, but are not strictly interchangeable.
I offer a contrasting opinion easily, having seen the film on the big screen , in the original format. I didn't grind it up in a blender and drink it through a straw for convenience and then complain it wasn't that good. You might enjoy movies that way, but you also might have missed a lot of the show, from the lights going down to the curtain dropping at the end. Yes, that movie house has a curtain.
As an aside, and of course, competitive lad that I am, I bring it up, there might be stuff going on you never will see outside of a theatre.
Like at the start of baby driver, where the creator appears on the screen and personally thanks the audience for attending his show with all the noise, and visual excitement of the theatrical experience. Further supporting my position. He also thanked people for supporting theaters in general, since he has a great affection for the form,
Another point, which I hope you will enjoy in the future, , different endings from the theatre to home . Two I can speak of are sci fi flicks , under the skin, something like that , had a big female star and a lot of nudity.
when I rented the thing, all of a sudden they were wearing little black swim trunks. A tom cruse movie, another SCi Fi, where he fights aliens and dies over and over had two very different endings, , where the theatrical ending incorporated time travel , so the ending of the war never happened, so to speak, you had to figure it out, the movie I rented, had a concrete solid ending ,
The last quality movie I have seen was, I tonya, one I recommend in any presentation.
aLL the best to you. I should mention that a senior discount helps my motivation to leave the house. Once they start asking 15 bucks or so , more for 3D, i get pretty selective. Still , seeing the last madmax, an instant classic from the first viewing, in 3D Imax, with a full house , was not to be missed.
...was John Wick 2 and while the film was so-so, the art direction was terrific.

and completely unexpected for a Reeves film. Art direction and choreography certainly carried the day. Had to get a copy, myself.
For me, JW2 was the feel-good movie of 2017.
There is certainly a story here- for example, how our hero was recruited by the Russian mafia from jump street? The Continental Hotel and its cast of characters (another story within this story)? Some of the characters from JW1 ? I want more!!!
..two. John Wick vol. 2 and King Arthur Legend of the Sword.
I can see why many would vote thumbs down on these two films but,....truth be told I enjoyed them both.
John Wick vol. 2 is simply wall to wall violence with only just a little bit of story telling to get the action going. All he needs is some really prodious motivation to get the wheels turning in this film. Then, like a complex chain of gears, the violence must continue until all of the energy within that gear chain is spent. I enjoyed it for what it was. Expect more of same from vol.3 when that comes around. Reeves is starting to look a bit past his prime in the face but, physically, he seems to keep up.
King Arthur via director Guy Richie. I don't think it matters that Richie stretched the mythical boundaries in this story telling because.... not that many viewers want to revisit the whole King Arthur story in the first place. For those who do, this one does break out of the mold. It's not in the vogue of Mallory, nor Tennyson's Idylls of The King, nor is it taken from M.Stewart's Merlin trilogy, nor from any of the Catholic Priests who wrote of him in the late dark ages.
re: the rest of that list. I may see a few off it. But all in good time.

Only saw one of the choices. Wick 2, which I thought was OK for a action flick.
Reviewers are usually anal about what is good and what isn't. I enjoy a good popcorn action movie. It does not need to be award worthy. I am burned out on all the Marvel type super hero films.

Thank you for your post Free Ranger I always enjoy your contributions and viewpoint.That said - I liked two of the films on that list - Gold and John Wick Two. I'm not saying either was "Gone with the Wind" but they certainly weren't "the worst".
I disagree about trusting LaSalle - He was and is a 2nd rate film critic for a 2nd rate newspaper (SF Chronicle for years, not sure what he's doing now). He's no Pauline Kael. With all the trash Hollywood releases- LaSalle can even bungle a "Worst Films of 2017" list. That's like bungling a "Least Likable Nazi's" list.
Gold and John Wick Two had some merit in my humble opinion.
Matthew McConaughey's performance in Gold was stand out. Maybe not on par with his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, but still an outstanding performance.
John Wick Two had beautifully choreographed fight scenes, incredible sets and was like jumping into a video game. Sure, not quite as great as John Wick One - but it was a respectable sequel.

I too liked Gold and thought MM was quite successful playing a part so out of character for him.
Overall I think he has rebounded nicely with his career slide into dopey/lovable/feel good rolls.
JW II was very enjoyable BEYOND what it is/is supposed to be.
Fantastic production aspects.
Couldn't read through the full list (my browser won't support it) but "worst"
lists generally mean little to me as there are SO MANY bad movies. Most of
what I saw there wasn't a surprise.
How bad is bad before it becomes worst?
