I thought they did an excellent job portraying synths. They spent a lot of time practicing how to walk like a synth in preparation. Including blinking a lot less. Great story line, great character development. Loved Niska. Loved season 1.
That said, I was less enthused about season 2. I never finished it, though I should get back to it.

. . . the highest rated episodes for season 2 are the final two (episodes 7 and 8).

And, yes, Niska is a compelling character - besides being such a babe (if you like the Aryan look!). And there's another synth character I didn't mention (who assumes greater and greater importance as the season continues): Hestor, who is all into "doing what needs to be done" - such as torturing and killing humans when necessary!

If you see season 2 to the end, I think you'll be surprised by some of the character changes and (further) developments.
