Last min script rewrites, change of director etc. Weak story, mostly lame acting, and a macro time line that does not make sense in the context of the larger SW story from EP1-EP4.
Han Solo will be the lemon of the franchise.
Rogue One was a good flic in comparison. The viewer gained insight into the idealism/pragmatism struggle within the Rebel leadership. There was a definite link to other SW movies, and it was plausible. Yeah the pan cultural cast was 21st cent PC, but a blind Jedi made perfect sense.
Follow Ups:
The film had it's enjoyable moments, but the timeline in perspective just didn't work.... Especially after the introduction of a character from other episodes. How old is everyone here? I too felt that the guy playing Han was the weak link in the chain. Rogue One was a far better film. I have been there with Star Wars since the beginning. I actually saw episode #4 on a sneak peak at the AVCO Westwood near UCLA before the film actually debuted to the public. At the end of the film, people were jumping up and down on their seats as the credits rolled.... I can assure you that DIDN'T happen here! I like Ron Howard as a director, but this certainly was NOT his best work......
I am not a comic book person nor Stars Wars person. I don't get into the minutiae of all the series. I don't care about all the boring timelines. I just look at these films for entertainment on a stand alone basis. I liked this one better than the others. I'll just have to redux and see what changes.
