A dysfunctional family, two funerals, mystical things happening, and an overwhelming sense of foreboding. That about sums it up. For me, This is one of the best of the year so far. The story, the actors, the editing, And, the overall flavor of this film is spooky. I was absolutely amazed watching Toni Collette's face emote through truly terrifying events. As always, this won't be for everyone. But for those who's enjoy and intriguing Near terrifying experience this is it. Common circumstances are turned in to a nightmarish Theatre of evil. Some may want to walk in, some may want to stay at home and see this.
4 wonks for doing it's job and Toni Colette

I was late to the Hereditary party - but I watched it (twice) yesterday.Hereditary was totally spooky and Toni Collette was magnificent. Hereditary was impressive the 2nd viewing - because it was almost made to watch again to pick up understated story "clues".
I don't usually enjoy "slow burn" spooky movies like "The Babadook". I'm a bit impatient and want the characters to walk up the dark spooky stairs and open the damn door. But Hereditary was eventful enough, even for me.
Toni Collette's enraged outburst at the dinner table was an incredible scene - in any genre.
Have a great day

How ya doin' Jeffrey? I have not seen you around the Audio forums lately?
...(which turns out to be one too many, and they're all expensive!)--Classical music/hi-end audio/movies/home theater, fotografy (mostly landscape), and rifle and pistol shooting and reloading. Seems they rotate thru my life in cycles of around nine months. Currently, after getting back into long-range-rifle shooting last spring and summer and almost-completely rebuilding my A/V system this winter/spring, it's fotografy.
With that, I replaced my camera system, an Oly M43 system that was very good, to another Sony-based system including an a7R3 and featuring, again, Canon TS-E lenses, this time a 24 and a old 45 (and now a brand-new 50), plus Sony zooms in 24-105 ('walkabout') and 70-200/4 and a Zeiss Loxia 21. I've refallen in love with the TS-Es so much I ordered and just received my newest batch of custom-embroidered caps that have 'Canon' on them and not 'Sony'.

Beautiful pics! Jeffrey
did you sell off all of your CJ gear? What is in your system(s) now?
I would like to see a few pics of the newer set-up.
Happy Listening!
This has re-opened as a day-long feature instead of two nightly showings. Glad to see it.
Very few frights and a stupid plot.

I'm going back and I will be going "thronk" at the right moments.
I was robbed! :-)

Collette and Wolff gave super strong performances. I wonder where Collette pulled those demonic looks of anger from? You just don't see a face contort like that. Byrne's overall demeanor and rationality just didn't seem possible in such a situation. I presume he was caught into being the family anchor. Admittedly, as the film got to the 3/4's point the plot began to soften up but not enough to throw the film away.
All hail, Paimon.
PS. Collette better get a nomination for her emotionally supercharged performance.
...a very will done film and Toni Collette should get an Oscar nomination.
The Babadook crosssed with Rosemary's Baby.
But I didn't like it - it's very edgy but I don't need more of this kind of anxiety in my life.
As Wonka said - it's not for everybody.
