So may as well start this thread mainly because several reviews have already been touting it to be the fourth film in history to have a chance at taking the 5 major Academy Awards: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay. And Best Song.
Granted It's not like that company is particularly superb but it has been getting generally strong critical response. 95% on the tomatoes.
Apparently all original songs for her Little Monsters (and some of you are too cool to admit it hahaha )
Follow Ups:
I thought it was fantastic. When Ally finally got up the courage to sing on stage the first time, she started out softly, but then when she exploded into her upper register as her story came out in her lyrics, it brought tears to my eyes. Yes, yes, I cry in movies. I think the emotional response people have to this film may have some relation to the quality of the theater's sound system. I thought the sound score and vocal recording was superb and should win an Oscar.
...it is terrific.
Never saw any of the 3 before it.
Gaga is electric and bursts from the screen whenever she is on stage singing, raising the hair on the back of my neck each time - Oscar nomination if not winner.
Bradley Cooper plays a drunk well.
I have low tolerance for films I don't like. This film definitely scored in the OK region for me and it was worthy of the Big Screen as well.
I really liked Bradley Cooper'a singing and band and he does play a drunk really well.
Yeah, my standards are not terribly high lately. I wouldn't watch it again, but I did like Bradley Cooper's singing (Lady Gaga's, not as much).
If the lady didn't get me out, I wouldn't have seen it, though.

Solid reviews coming in. Seems apt that a music magazine review it

Even LaLa Land was some variation on this theme. One star going up, the other going down, two stars passing on the stage. Yuck.
Previous versions include the 1937 edition with Mitzi Ganor, then a musical stage type with Judy Garland, then a 1976 syrup festival with Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
I mean, ... damn ...
I'll reach for the icepick before I watch it.
Now try to unsee this poster.

1954 Garland and 1976 Streisand versions of the story.... I DO like this song...
Sean Penn gave it an interesting review considering he says this absolutely not his type of film.

Pardon me, but the first sounds of that "song" were enough to tell the whole story.

12 feet may not be enough!
I literally CAN'T STAND what's her name...
I think I'd rather see the new Magnum P.I.,
And I don't want to see That at ALL.
Poor Tom Selleck that is.
Do they really have to copy a show, no imagination left in that multi-billion dollar industry? If you create a new show, create a new show! Dang.
I have no idea why people watch these horrible Hollywood offerings whether remake or not.

Imagine if they were only paid for quality work. Barbra Streisand getting by on $200 a week.
Talk about poetic justice!

I can't.
Sometimes I just don't understand.

Luckily, we're not forced to watch!
