PS3 did it
Follow Ups:
So Blu-ray has 500% more units out there but only manages 40% better movie sales?
buying movies, will be enough to win.
But HD-DVD with how many more movies per player HD DVD sells in the US only needs about 10% more market share until movie sales are even.
Remember, not everyone wants a toy in their HT or livingroom. If you take away the PS3, then for stand alone players, its 4:1 HD DVD to BD. The attatchment rate is about 1 or less. Despite the gross outnumbering of players, BD still has out sold HD DVD by less the 2:1 SI.
1.5M players, and each Pirates movie sold 23,500 copies the first week. You should be embarrassed. I don't think any BD title has sold over 100,000 yet.
4:1 and the HD DVD of Planet earth is still outselling the BD version.
Lets hear it for the PS3 movie format!

by poor hapless DVD watchers who thought HD-DVD would play in their DVD players. OTOH, there can't be that many folks who would make that mistake, can there ? Certainly, "Planet Earth" is great HD demo material with good subject matter.
Its driven by the upsurge in sales of the A2 since the price drop. Due to the fact that people also got a bunch of free movies with the A2, it may be a while before they have an impact on disc sales, except for PE.

The HD DVD problem is that the movies are not selling any more !
On amazon top 400, the only HD DVD seller is the Planet Earth.
Next title is number 402 !
There is 8 Blu Ray Titles in top 400
You keep bringing up that same old website, when its convienient for you, and you still don't have a clue do you? The weekly sales fluctuate quite a bit there. Note, that this page doesn't give you any idea of the numbers being sold.
Jack
Yes, the number change, but the trend is the same, HD DVD sell fever movies than Blu Ray in USA.
And USA looks like the only part of the world, where HD DVD have a 30% market share. USA is about 21% of the world market. Having 30% of 21% is very bad, when Japan has gone Blu Ray by 90%.
