It is amazing to me that audiophools will drop $500 on an interconnect, but will not buy a HD player, because they might bet on the losing format. To the heck with it...getting ready to watch Planet Earth on Blu-Ray.
Follow Ups:
There are no promises that either format will be around in 5 years, but what fun we can have with Blu-Ray and HD DVD today. With current promotions, you can buy BOTH formats and get 10 "free" movies for well under $850 ($500 for Sony PS/3 + 260 (for Toshiba HD-A2) to 330 (for Toshiba HD-A20) on Amazon). And in high end audio terms, that's a lot of entertainment for the money.
"Planet Earth" was great, and I'm looking forward to "Galapagos".
For twice the angst. :-)

I may pick it up tomorrow. What made yo decide Blu as opposed to HD?
It's a great investment if you have an interest in National Geographic-like documentaries. Good video demo material, not so with the audio but given the content, who cares ?

I don't see HD-DVD winning this one...my bet is on Sony. Here is an interesting read: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/soapbox/soap060107.html
That link, if somewhat dated, says it all. And it's gotten worse for HD-DVD since.
I like this quote posted yesterday from a High def digest forum.
"Holy crap. That's 2 major distributors, 6 smaller ones, and at least 2 retailers that have gone Blu-ray exclusive or neutral in, what, two weeks?"
You're down to quoting fanboys now?

Only criticism is a very subtle strobing effect on occasional dark footage. Overall, the picture and sound is striking and captivating, as on the HD Discovery broadcasts.
