I'm thinking that the format war may not be such an either/or thing... once burners get down in price, it won't be a big deal to transfer movies from one format to the other. Or you may just dump them all to your hard drive array anyway like folks are doing with CDs and DVDs.
Wild Bunch: Never seen it before-worth the HD treatment?
Oldboy: A definite buy, but I wasn't aware that it had a definite USA release date yet? AFAIK the Japanese HD DVD is strictly Korean/Japanese.
Infernal Affairs: I saw this not so long ago on regular DVD and liked it; a definite "maybe".
I'm almost afraid to start looking at too many J-market sites or Amazon.co.uk because there's no shortage of goodies, but the price can be kind of breathtaking: Just in anime alone, I see that
Ghost In The Shell
Patlabor
Paprika
Metropolis
Memories
Akira
Steamboy
Are all available in one HD format or another.

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." -HST
2001
Cat People
BSG Season 1 (new series)-may hold off, depending on price.
Heroes Season 1
Oldboy
Poltergeist (announced, but no firm date)
Close Encounters (maybe)
Blade Runner (maybe)
Most of Q4 releases haven't been announced yet, so there may be more of interest, especially catalog and non-blockbuster movies.

Poltergeist has been canceled. I'll pass on Close Encounters. I will get Blade Runner (without the suitcase).

The Departed is based upon Infernal Affairs. Not interested in getting The Departed (haven't seen it in fact), but I am getting my hands on this.-------------
