  Sony's got a boatload of 80 gigabyte models to clear out first, so don't be surprised if these are discounted to $499. I think Sony is being premature in completely eliminating PS/2 backwards compatibility from the latest, 40G model, and this decision may come back to haunt them.

      I fully expected it to be released in the US and that was confirmed a few days ago on other forums.
      
      Slim pickings though in my mindset as I would assume there will not be that many units for each individual retail location. There is always the possibly for ebay sells but the initial PS3 release did not go over very well. Time will tell.

  the price drop is big. PS3 have been at Euro 599 for a long time. At Euro 399 it will sell a lot more.
  Today I went shopping for food, and I found Blu Ray movies in the supermarket in northern Finland. That must be called main stream :-)

    Or did you think the PS3 would remain at its current cofiguration and pricepoint indefinitely.

        Pick up an existing 60 gig if you have a desire to play PS2 games on your new PS3 player. The new players will not have the needed chip.
