Hard to assume anything these days. Some of the older HDMI-input units were simply video passthrough/switching. Newer ones carry audio/video on HDMI and will switch and/or process the audio along with the video. Most also will correlate the HDMI video with a digital or analog audio input and switch them together.
The only way to know is to access, download and read the user's manuals for the items that interest you.

or someone who's read the manual. My pre/pro provided for independent video/audio control while allowing automatic (user-defined) video/audio selections for specific components. It's at least a decade old so I would expect any receiver worthy of the name would support this (that's pure speculation BTW).
Find a dealer which can answer the question or query the NAD/Onyko websites for "technical assistance" ? Or check out the AVS forums for assistance. You just might find a specific component Owner's thread to browse through.
