My 5 free Blu-Ray movies finally arrived, and so did an Amazon order of mostly HD DVDs. I've barely begun to remove the shrinkwrap:
Ratatouille (B-D) Man oh man have I been waiting for this one, arguably Pixar's most charming work to date. @#$% Circuit City is not stocking the B-D, but Target does (but I had to hunt around because they weren't in the Blu-Ray section). Took a pass on "Cars" which wasn't my favorite.
2001 (HD DVD) of course.
Lost In Translation (HD DVD)
Enemy Of The State (B-D)
Stranger Than Fiction (B-D)
Being John Malkovich (HD DVD)
Galapagos (HD DVD)
Tekkonkinkreet (B-D) A must-see (and hear!) IMO.
Freebie B-D movies, have never seen most of them
Blazing Saddles (okay I *have* seen this: Beans anyone?)
X-Men 3: Last Stand (they ran out of "Italian Job" so they sent me this)
Invincible
Stir of Echos
Last Waltz
I still have no proper sound system: Audio is via HDMI to the TV set, and where possible, I select the lossless PCM or TrueHD tracks. Even here, it seems to me the high bit rate audio is often noticeably sharper, in-your-face and dynamic.
Follow Ups:
Watched "Enemy of the State" last night inbetween watching the Cowboys trash the Giants. woohoo !The PCM soundtrack was another example why all more recent movies need to be released with lossless/uncompressed soundtracks. It's unfortunate Universal/Warners can't/won't release the master audio tapes on ALL of their releases.
Back to the HD queue:
Close Encounters
David Gilmour
Die Hard 4 (maybe the earlier stuff)
Blade Runner
Mr & Mrs. Smith
Master % Commander
Star Trek
Mendelssohn
Independence Day
Harry Potter (maybe)
Battle Star Galactica (maybe)
Other music videos (Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Orbison) depending on soundtracks.
List is too long...
Why is Fox putting the theatrical release on BD and the extended, unrated cut on the DVD? Do I smell a $40 double dip, or do they just have no respect for their customers? Or is that question redundant? :-)

Must...... resist...
Not even sure when the latter will be released as it has been pushed back a few times.
Circuit City had Rat had my local store but didn't offer $10 off when one purchases it with Cars.
Best Buy had buy three BDs from an assortmant and get a PS3 remote for free. No discount on the BDs though and the starting price was $29.99 for some of those.
With the exception of Corpse Bride, which was short, I haven't been overly motivated to watch my 5 free BDs.
I have Oldboy waitng, but one has to be in the mood for that type of movie. This week I'll be getting the Ocean's Trilogy and Shrek 3-the only animated movie I'll bother watching now. Next week, I'll be getting Tremors and Star Trek, so I'll have plenty to watch then.
In the mean time, I'll be doing more music. :-)

Peter Bracke at High-Def Digest waxed enthusiastic over 'Cars', but was just beside himself over 'Ratatouille' (see below). It really does look sensational, and it's a charming film, to boot.
I've also got the 'Galapagos' BD and it looks sensational as well!
