Jack, would you mind doing a cursory review of the HD mastering when you have time?
Cheers,

Follow Ups:
They put alot of time and energy into this. The beginning of the discs is cute. The first thing you notice once the episode start, is the colors. Bright, vivid, deep. Detail is pretty good, there is some grain, but not alot. Kiddies rasied on video ganes may not be impressed. The effects are pretty good, but they took a few liberties. Purists might object, but so far, I've liked them and think they enhance instead of distract. IInteractive features were Informative and OK.
Comments- Navigation is not intuitive on these discs. you must use the "joystick" controls to change episodes, access audio and features. Be aware that the true HD has a VERY low volume, and changing discs can be *ahem* loud.
So far, I've seen 3 or so episodes, and am quite pleased.
Time to watch another episode...
Jack
What I meant above, for navigation, is that you must use the joystick controls to *find* your options. The menu is not like other HD DVD menus out there. Perhaps I'm just slow, but I didn't realize at first how to change episodes or access audio etc.
Do to the time this show was made, you will notice the somewhat heavy handed photography. Also, close-ups of women (except Sally Kellerman) will be soft and fuzzy. Believe it or not, this is the first time I noticed that Uhura actually has the shortest skirt in the show-she's even "cheeky" at times. :-)
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this set. It seems to be a labor of love, and the improvements don't really change the character of the show. It looks and feels like Star Trek with a bigger budget.
enjoy,
JackEDIT: This is a case where I actually prefer the stereo soundtrack, even though it is Lossy DD+. It seems to "fit" better.
Maybe a few quick comments tonight, more liekely tomorrow.
I paid $117 at Amazon and I got it day of release. :-)
Nice case, surprisingly compact for 10 discs.
Stay tuned...
Jack
