If true, that's impressive, given that they claimed to have reached the 500K milestone only on the 8th of November (250K players sold in 3 weeks may not be iPhone territory, but it's not bad for this market!). High def disks will move into the mainstream yet :-)

so we should compare to the USA total of standalone players and SONY PS3.
PS3 in USA is now at 2,608,689 players all with Blu ray drives, last week sales were 174,045 units up +84% from last week.
Then we can add standalone Blu Ray players.

One's sitting beneath the dual format player gathering dust; the other is still in the box. And I've bought one (1) HD DVD in the past three (3) months... what an attach rate !

is this from the same source which suggested 190k copies of "Transformers" "sold" in the first week ?
