It looks like the 40GB version hit the right price spot.
Last week week sales was 351,345 units world wide. Europe strongly up because here the price drop was bigger than in USA.
Please do not mention a 0.6 attach rate, because it is now much higher than before.

...that people are buying the PS3 because it has a promising list of video games on the horizon? After all.. it IS a gaming console first and a Blu-Ray player second... right?

"But price reduction was due to poor sales!"
Not really. The PS3 has some extremely advanced technology and Sony lost an estimated $200 on every sold unit sold at $600. Not so anymore, though Sony is probably losing as much money as Microsoft is losing on the Xbox 360. It seems Nintendo is the only one who makes money.
PS2 is still a big seller and I believe Sony is banking on the PS3 to be around for a long time.

Last year at this time, Sony was losing approximately $241 on every $699 PS3, and approx $307 on every $499 PS3, according to iSuppli. This year, overall losses on the PS3 are expected to be double those of last year.

Doesn't look that way. It appears that the success of Halo 3 pushed the Xbox 360 into profitability, despite the reliability/service issues.

Indeed it is. Even today it typically outsells its newer sibling by 2:1.
Let's call it something like:
"The Ole Lund Christensen has an axe to grind about blue-ray but if you really want you can post about something ELSE video related asylum".
