to go to any side. They would lose money overall.
But big cash payments can tempt them.
Follow Ups:
in anticipation of increased HD sales as a result of current fence-sitters buying into the winning format. If that's a sufficient reason for Warner to pick sides, they would likely to pick Blu-ray as Blu-ray has the most studio support and better software sales.
Warner owns some of the patent rights to HD DVD. They don't for BD. As I've said before, the potential big bucks(Billions if the masses adopt) are in the patent rights and licensing fees. How much of an influence that will have, is yet to be seen.
Jack
how much influence they really have over BDA and how much they are willing to "suck up" to a mere studio remains to been seen.
sales, and still took the money from HD DVD.
I am perhaps paranoid, but I see MS money and methods behind many closed doors, even some posters here in AA.
When people accuse me of being paid by SONY, I assume they are paid by MS.
I assume you saw MS losing bigtime due to illigal business methods at the highest European Court?
MS need to grow, and they have said, that CE is the next place for that expansion. Media center PCs were the first step.
The Japanese are fighting back to keep the CE market. LG and Samsung have a foot in each camp.
So far MS hardware have broken down at lot (X360), but they can learn.
However now standalone Blu Ray players from both SONY and Samsung are at USD 270, so they hit harder.
I actually think most people buy a new player because the old breaks down. So the many brands have the upper hand, when the price is about the same.
