Below is a link to pdf downloads of the two new Denon Blu-ray players. The DVD-2500BTCI is a digital-only transport (no analog outputs and only one digital output -- HDMI) and the DVD-3800BDCI, which has all of the digital-only model's features and adds analog audio/video outputs (as well as a higher quality video processor). They should be available early 2008, are Profile 1.1 and handle internal decoding and bitsteaming of DTS-HD Master Audio.
Follow Ups:
7.1 analog outputs, decent video processing, decent DACs, and internal decoding of the DTS HD MA.It's a bit steep so I'll need to start counting pennies and I'll have to get in line behind everyone else salivating over this unit.
is that we finally have a company willing to take advantage of the promise of HDMI -- one cable, one output (the DVD-2500BTCI). It's sad that this capability was available with DVD players, but no one had the balls to do it.
It it were up to me, the higher quality video processor would also be used in the transport (for a few dollars more, of course). Denon's probably targeting this one to the Home Theater crowd that uses a video processor.
It's main target is probably still the "traditional" Receiver and/or preamp/processor. In a few years, I would expect most HD media players to be little more than transports with HDMI connections, after all, what else would you need (unless you are the oddball like me who's "stuck" with a multichannel analog preamp) ?
I'm curious how much value added a video processor would be if you had a 1080p/24 source player and display ?
