In Reply to: RE: What if Universal, Paramount & Dreamworks don't go neutral or Blu? posted by TK421 on January 05, 2008 at 19:49:52
The biggest director for Universal and Dreamworks has already said none of his films will be sanctioned for HD DVD only. As we've already seen with Close Encounters, the converse isn't true.
The writing is on the wall and I strongly recommend that HD DVD fanatics read it.

Follow Ups:
I don't expect many Speilberg titles on BD for quite a while. Maybe Poltergeist, but not his bigger titles.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark movies on Blu-Ray will almost certainly be timed with the release of the 4th movie on same is my guess.
"AI" should be a high-def natural also, but if only Stanley Kubrick had lived to complete it--can't help but wonder if his style would have been much more fitting.
So at the moment, there seems to be no way an HD RotLA will happen.

He recently had a falling out with Paramount. Regardless, IIRC, he was late to jump into DVD, so I don't think we'll see his bigger hits until there are alot more people buying BD.

Paramount controls distribution and until it starts shipping blu-ray again, no chance for RotLA. Ditto all Spielberg's Universal titles. But hopefully it won't be long before those studios reevaluate their position.-------------

As the audience builds up, you get a steady stream of new purchases of a particular blockbuster. And you get to start collecting royalties sooner rather than later.
Compare that to, oh, let's say the Goodfellas HD DVD which is #3386 on Amazon. CE3K doesn't seem to be selling too poorly by any rational measure.

.
Who cares? Spielberg will never sanction an HD DVD only release of any of his films.

Last I heard, it only sold about 2,000 its first week. I'm sure its sold more since, but it was never a huge seller. I suspect Speilberg will wait until there is a much bigger customer base.

You usually respond to my points by saying something negative about blu-ray, but that doesn't mean your response is relevant. As for Spielberg, I don't think he really cares about how many Blu-rays sell--he leaves that to bean counters and pundits. He cares more about giving fans of his movies the best possible experience. It's not like he's hurting for more money or more sales. But you guys at AVS like to think of all angles, I guess.
