I do recommend plasmas over LCDs because the colors and contrast seem more natural/organic whereas the LCDs seem more digital/fake. The illusion of depth is vastly superior on plasma. I'd look at the Pioneer PDP4280HD and compare it to anything else you're thinking of getting.

  I don't think they make their own plasmas. As of a couple years ago, Runco's 50" plasma came from Pioneer and its 42" came from NEC, though Runco may have made some slight modifications to both displays. They are also out of the price range of the original post.
