Fact: Blu-ray is not Sony.
Got it? If need be, repeat it again and again until you drop from exhaustion. Please stop posting that they are, because it is not true: they are only part of it. Below is a link to a discussion on the subject. Page 2 contains a few quotes from Blu-ray financial insider Maxpower1987. Pay particular attention to that information because it may help remedy this all too common misconception.
Follow Ups:
Maybe not everyone, but a large percentage of the posters here have made comments which infer that Blu-ray = Sony with no regard for the other companies involved in the format, especially those who have as much or more IP patents as Sony. And some of those people should know better.
Sony has become the face of the BDA, regardless of who else is in it.
Whether that is good or bad depends on your POV.
Deal with it.
Jack
SONY is not the face Blu ray, Disney have been running around USA promoting Blu ray.
It is time for you to eat some humble pie.
In the mean time, who made 95+% of the BD players out there?
Hint: Its the PS3...

Is that it doesn't really matter that much if Disney took their show to a shopping mall in a dozen or more cities, that's not what most people see. The PS3 is by far the best selling BD player out there, and is VERY HIGH PROFILE too. As you know, Sony pushed it hard, especially lately, as a BD player. That's what people see. On the news last night, when they discussed the end of the war (yes they really did), they referred to BD as "Sony's Blu-ray".
Perception is everything.
Jack
themeselves to instant experts, and spread the news about Blu ray, SONY and Toshiba.
This is fine for sales of Blu ray, and and I do not expect more from TV.
But perception is NOT everything here in AA. Here knowledge should be at a higher level.
That was the point of the starting post.
Let me know when that changes.
Then the face will change.
Jack
why mention that? All here know that.
But, all here know that.
jack
you write about the public, they know SONY
I write about AA readers, they should know more.
There is a big difference, that is why AA excist.
I wrote about both.
People here are well aware that the BDA is more than Sony, that is a given. It doesn't change the fact that Sony is the the most visible company of the BDA, even for people here at AA.
The two views are not mutually exclusive.

but Americans should remember that it was Toshiba that secretly sold technology to USSR during the cold war.
Did not need to read that at all. Don't care if they do or don't, never thought they did.

Only people who need to care are those with a financial stake in Blu-Ray.
I don't think anyone has ever said that Sony was ALL of the BDA. They certainly seem to be the most visible part. So what's your point?
