I have one 19" tube TV left that isn't on a cable outlet so I applied for a coupon for a converter box. It arrived today.
I'm about 15 miles SW from the antenna farms in Needham MA. I'm in a low spot behind a hill though and I don't have an aerial so I'm willing to bet I wouldn't even get the thing to work. With the coupon, it would only be $15-20 so I might get one to try it out just for yucks and hahas.
Follow Ups:
picked up the Zenith box from CC. Works great,I'm getting 20 channels, crystal clear.
I'll never pay Comcast another dime.
what's your antenna and how far from the towers are you?
When I bought my house 13 years ago, it had a normal looking uhf/vhf antenna on the roof that was never used. I got lucky it was properly aimed at the correct west michigan towers. I think the farthest tower is about 35 miles away. I also think it helps that my house is pretty tall with no trees to speak of blocking any signal.
What gets me is the the cheap Zenith converter gets more channels than my samsung T451 on my large TV in the basement HTR.
I'm hoping some company will release a converter with a s-video output before my coupon expires, but it probably won't happen. I'll just get another Zenith for the guest room TV,
