The Sammy BD-5000 blew up. It was cruisin' thru a film and I noticed a tiny bit of distortion and static in the sound track. I passed it off as static electricity and let the movie roll on. Suddenly, and at a good part of "Sunshine", it froze. I tried a reboot and a non BR DVD and the movie played but there was no sound. The BR discs would not play at all.
I called my local dealer, Magnolia in Palo Alto, and they said bring it on in. I did so and they handed me a new one and updated my warranty in the computer. Brought it home and installed Sammy's updated firmware and it works fine....for how long....who knows.
At any rate the dealer handled this absolutely satisfactory.
Follow Ups:
...I'm not saying it broker your 5k, but Sunshine won't play on most BD players w/out some problems. Apparently, it should play w/ the latest 5k FW v1.2.
Have you tried Sunshine on your new 5k?

It's annoying but that's what "early adopters" have to put up with.
I sent it back to Netflix. The blown player had this upgrade already and I have upgraded the replacement player as soon as it got connected.
-------------Call it, friendo.
The 500's not perfect--is won't decode Dolby TrueHD tracks--but it allows me to play ALL my hi-def discs, and it gives me very-high-quality video and audio.
I'm quite happy.
It's big-bully Sony I no longer touch with that proverbial 10-foot pole; Sony screwed me once too often.
