The last issue was end of 2007... not gonna be any 2008 issues.

And it seems to still be alive and kicking. Of course, it's not a strictly 'vision' mag because it goes into sound components, but they do have some excellent review sections.
Magazines 'go under' because they lose readership. Which is a problem of the market not needing what they have to offer. The internet is helpful but my computer won't fit into the magazine stand in my bathroom.
Let's hope at least one or two mags stay in production so that I never have to face this logistical headache.
Not totally true.TPV has been incorporated into the new Playback online magazine.

Good Riddance. A good movie critic? Horrible IMHO
gave a negative review of a product, then that manufacturer would boycott them, refusing to run ads in the magazine or send them product to review. As readers caught onto the game, they would stop cancel their subscription and/or stop buying the magazine. Another potential revenue source dries up.
No ads, no magazines purchased (either by subscription or bought at newsstand), then no revenue stream, no magazine. Simple as that.
This same problem is found in the guitar magazines, and probably other areas of commerce as well. This is why Consumer Reports exists. Unfortunately, they don't review audiophile or videophile type gear. And I wonder about some of their statements, though to a lesser extent.
"gave a negative review of a product, then that manufacturer would boycott them, refusing to run ads in the magazine or send them product to review."
That is quite a statement. Where did you come across this information? Please inform as to which publications and manufacturers were involved.
worked at a high-end audio store. He wasn't some high school kid--IIRC he owned the store.
This conversation took place about five years ago. I was talking with him after purchasing some gear from him & asked which audio/video magazines he preferred. He had strong reservations about the equipment reviews in several audio/video magazines, including "The Perfect Vision."
I deduced that there could very well be a conflict of interest. If a magazine criticized your product and didn't recommend it, would you take
an ad out in that same magazine?
I always look for "conflicts of interest." They're everywhere. I didn't mean to paint everyone and everything "black." But they ain't all white either.

That is rather unfortunate, but however, I see it as a further erosion of quality specialty magazines that seemingly appeal to a dwindling audience. It will be missed.
People are too busy watching their home theaters to have time to read!
THe likes of Stereo Review and High Fidelity were different... You could read the new issue while listening to your stereo!
Christ, I haven't missed that magazine in years. It was good back in the late 80s--early 90s when it ran lengthy articles about how TVs worked and on movie technology, I still have the copies with the Technicolor and movie restoration articles. And HP was a very good movie critic, very good indeed.
But that was all a LONG time ago.
