Howdy Looking for a DVD player with audio optical out for under $200 that I can use to play my CD's connected to my Benchmark Dac1 and I'll also use the same DVD player to play DVD's on the T.V. soon to be purchased flat LCD screen 720p 40 inch.
I'll need a DVD player with optical out because the digital coax input on my dac will be used for another source,a Wadia Ipod transport .
I was thinking about a Toshiba HD-A3 for $79 off Audiogon new,but read somewhere that Toshiba puts a cap on the audio qulaity of the audio optical output.
Many thanks,
Robert

Thanks!! I'll get an OPPO.
Cheers,

It is a really nice video player. I have it connected to a 42 inch 1080p LCD in the bedroom and upconverting to 1080p. Looks great. It does SACD and DVD-A OK and is not a horrible CD player for $170. I have it and a Sony 2000ES CD/SACD changer connected to an old MicroMega DuoPro DAC. I prefer the Sony as an SACD source (and it is a changer) and like the Sony better as a transport (the MicroMega is sensitive to transport changes). The Oppo also has a USB input on the front. It won't take most MP3 players (like an iPod or a Zune) but probably can take USB thumb or hard drives (I have not tried it yet) which would be really cool with it connected to the DAC. So basically you have the potential for something like a music server using your DAC.
