....they are too noisy. I just have a 42" rear projection LCD. I am tired of the fan noise. My next "video area" will have the TV behind the wall, not in the room, with a glass front for viewing. When I turn down the TV very low I can't listen that way due to fan noise. We're a one TV household. My previous Sony nice CRT made too much flyback noise, when I muted it I could hear the flyback frequency. Anyone else feel similarly about this subject?

I sympathize with you. Sharp hearing on the verge of hyperacousys, my problem too.
I also couldn't bare the 50Hz CRT TV's flyback noise (16something kHz) and fan noise from plasma screens.
The solution is LCD TV's or 100Hz CRT (best picture IMO).
Best wishes.
I can hear my plasma buzzing slightly when I get right up to the screen, but it's a non-issue from a just few feet away. Certainly no worse than hearing a little tube noise with my ear close to the speaker.
My Panasonic 50" plasma is quiet, too. No problem with noise.
LCD direct view TV's are quiet. Although some early plasma TVs buzz, mine is totally quiet. No need for extreme measures in my opinion, just buy the right technology.
Now if only my PlayStation 3 were quiet. I'm waiting for Blu-ray technology to settle down before I buy a dedicated -and quiet- Blu-ray player.
