As much as I love the picture produced by the big CRT I have in the guest suite, I would not buy that television again. It's way too heavy, there's no one left to fix it if it breaks, and it lacks key items that would allow it to better fit into a modern home entertainment setup. All this (and more) applies to the TV you're looking at.
Harmonia's "beautiful dinosaur" is an apt description.
I have a friend with one. It weighs even more than my 34" CRT which to say way too much. If you watch mostly standard def and 4:3 full screen, it might be worth $200-$250. My friend now asks why I let her get the 40" Sony CRT way back when, and I just shrug and say I tried to talk them out of it at the time, which I did. They've given theirs away to a relative.
This set is one heavy sucker - nearly impossible to move and it's deep too. If you have any interest in HD and movies, I'd save your $$ and put something with the $500 to get a plasma or LCD. I'm considering dumping my 34" CRT when I move - it's a great set but it's 175lbs and I simply can't move it by myself. When I got it 7+ years ago it was a $2300 TV. There weren't any really good options for affordable flat screens, Samsung was just getting ready to introduce the DLP rear projectors. So I've enjoyed my HDTV for those years - but if I were buying today I'd never buy a CRT...and yes, I know all their virtues. But I'm a single gal and my 34" is a PITA.
Don't do it unless you have 2 weightlifting teenage sons.
I have a very nice 34" 16:9 Sony XBR that is still in service in the family room and at 200+ pounds it took two people to place it.
And no, it doesn't have an HD tuner but most sets of that era didn't. If you're on Cable TV or Satellite, you won't need an HD tuner. If you need one, they can be had for a couple hundred dollars max.
I will never again buy a CRT set mainly because they're too big and bulky and weigh a ton! I can move my 42" Plasma set by myself and decent Plasma and LCD sets about that size can be had for about $500 - $1000.

I think it is priced too high for the market. SD CRT sets are becoming boat anchors. Also, it is a heavy mother. Be sure you have someone to help you carry it.
Seems i remeber they made a 40" set 5 or so years ago that wasn't hd? If it is HD, does it have an HD tuner? As another poster said, there's some nice 720p's flat screen LCDs out there with tuners for $800-900 or so.I also sold my 34" Wega for $200.
Let's go burn down the observatory so nothing like this ever happens again

... nobody wants heavy crt tv's any more. $500 is not a bad price but you might do better. I sold my 34 in. wegga crt hdtv that has a beautiful picture for $200. Many people were asking up to $500 but I don't think they were getting it.
I would pay a little more and get a new 720p/1080i flat panel at costco but if you are convinced that crt is the best picture then go for it.
