Is Anyone using the analog inputs from the processor to the analog outputs on their dvd player for surround processing?
Are your results as good as or better than letting the processor decode the sound?
My processor is not HDMI audio capable....but it has 5.1 analog to connect to my Blu Ray player.
Theoretically or realistically, which will yeild the best sound, HDMI or the 5.1 analog connection?
Should I look to get a processor with HDMI audio or is the 5.1 analog as good?
The new Denon player for $2k has an 8 channel analog output and my processor has an 8 channel analog input. The new Denon player also has a bass management feature. Again, I'd rather not have to buy another processor just to be able to play back the new hi-def audio codecs, I'd like to know if the analog connection will be equal to the task that HDMI does.
I currently have a new Sunfire Theater Grand 5 processor.
...thanks, Mitch
Follow Ups:
Since I'm HDMI-challenged, it's a no-brainer, I have to rely on the player DACs (through multichannel analog preamp in lieu of pre/pro). And when/if I get an HDMI pre/pro, I'll have to evaluate it's audio processing, DAC performance, and especially the preamp stage performance.
ALL the digital processing that's done in my system is done in the players, a Denon 2900 and a Samsung 5000. My preamp is a 6-channel, vacuumtubed, conrad-johnson MET1; it has NO digital processing whatever.
Go ahead; they'll sound great.
BTW your message header really confused me, as the signal goes TO, not from, the pre/pro's inputs.

receiver. Only wayh to do SACD DVD Audio
Better? Avoiding redundant A/D/A conversions is better, so I recommend digital connection from the player to the processor, if you are going to use any of the capabilities of the processor. OTOH, if you lack HDMI input and you run the analog straight/direct through the processor, you may be happier with the sound than encumbering the A/D/A. Just try it both ways.

...of the pre/pro, why would there be ANOTHER conversion?

if he intends to use any of the processing facilities in the AVR.
