... just kidding ... actually it is dead ... but I did find a bunch of HD DVD movies at WalMart (London, Ontario) for five bucks a piece (but hurry because they seem to be getting well-picked over).
I have been a Blu-ray guy for quite some time, but I couldn't resist the temptation to pick up a fire sale Toshiba player for next to nothing. With the price of gas, you can't rent a DVD for five bucks! Just a heads up.

Follow Ups:
Redflagdeals.com posted this sale last week. I picked up all five Harry Potter movies, Superman: The Movie, Unforgiven and T3. Great deal! I've bought more HD DVDs since the "death" than before it.
Also, Giant Tiger, a discount retailer in Canada, was selling HD DVDs for $6.99 each.
Same here in BC; I hit two Walmarts, and picked up about 18 movies, although I did have to relax my standards, to roughly the level of "more entertaining than having my eyes gouged out with pickle forks". There are rumours that stores might be resupplied, so it's worth checking back next week.
I don't know about Canada, but Netflix here in the U.S. makes renting DVDs very inexpensive--about $2 a disc depending on the plan and one's viewing frequency. Plus, no trips to the rental store (and their limited selection of movies) and thus no cost for gas.
