I am looking at the Oppo 980H and Toshiba HD-A2 DVD players. I know the Oppo up-converts on the HDMI output (the only one) but is this true for the Toshiba also? it has both HDMI and component outputs. It may offer a little more flexibility in how I hook it up. If it does up-convert on component connections, is the video quality much less than on HDMI?
Thanks,
dave
Follow Ups:
HDMI is a crisper less noisey image. Toshiba released this week the XDE500 player with sharp/color/contrast enhancers that many are arguing are better than the XA2 and the Oppo's for 149.00. My local CC sold out last night. It's not a BD Killer. I noticed inside the Zoran Vaddis 966 chipset which is not in the same league as the Silicon Optix/SiliconImage/ABT chipsets. It doesn't compete with my hi-rent Denon that was struck by lightning but what a player for149.00!
You can't upscale over component. That's not allowed (but there are a few exceptions).

Though some Chinese players break the rules ie. Neuneo. From Oppo's site:
"Component video output with progressive scan (Up-converting over component output is only available for unencrypted DVD discs such as home video and consumer-created contents. Most commercially pressed DVD discs are CSS-encrypted and will be limited to 480i/480p output over component. HDMI output is protected with HDCP and has no such restriction.)"
For all practical purposes at least.
