I just picked up an Onkyo 805 to use as a Pre/Pro. It's well known that the 805 runs hot - will the amps still draw current and generate heat even though I'm using an external amplifier? I'm a little concerned that I may need to allow for a little more ventilation around the receiver than I currently have. Secondly, will the Audyssey Dynamic/EQ system still work even though I'm not using the on-board amps?
Thanks
Follow Ups:
For most solid state amp circuit designs, the difference between power consumption with or without signal is insignificant, especially at normal room listening levels. If you have the SERVICE manual and have a tech friend, it would probably be possible to go inside and disconnect the power stages. The preamp stages use only a few watts of power or less but disconnecting the power stages may screw up the supply voltages. In electronics, ALL things are possible for those with enough time...!

I've used my Sony DA4ES as a pre-pro in the past, and it seemed to get just as hot as when using the internal amps.
1. They will draw less current and make less heat but not none.
2. All functions will work as they did.
