  First one died overnight. The replacement is- so far, so good.
  
  The S-video output is - with a quality cable - excellent. The RF out is dot-crawl city.
  
  No wall wart; on board PS with a metal chassis.
  
  The PS looks like a modder's dream: better rectifier diodes, better power cord and filter caps, chassis dampening and better feet. The electronics board is all SMD stuff which I can't touch.

  Actually, $100 more than the $49 boxes, but it's what I did. I ordered a second one this morning (bought the first one a few months ago). After reading a good bit on tuners, I decided on this one. It's considered one of the best on the market and the upconversion to 1080i from 480i is excellent.
  
  Total delivered ($10 off coupon available when I ordered the first time, it was $5 off this morning) was $162.

  There are several threads on the TR40 at AVS. I wanted one (or two) because of the longer programming guide but they weren't ready before my coupons expired so I ended up getting two Zenith 901's. There are things that I don't like about it but it does have an excellent picture.

  Sorry, They didn't seem to test the Echostar brand. If you go to the site be sure to click on the blue header, it will open up a page giving notes on all of the DTV boxes tested.

  Below is a link to a forum at AVS for converter boxes. The TR-40 has a thread on page 1 of that forum (as I posted this comment, it may be page 2 or more when you click), but the thread is now locked (ie, read only). However, Ken posted a link to continuation of the discussion (located in the last post).
