Folks. Reading up on the HDMI threads and attempting to learn the differences of the HDMI cables, I am now wonndering if I would benefit from an upgrade to 1.3. My only interest at this point would be an improvement in picture quality from bluray vids. I am using a Monster 700HD cable (4.95 Gbps, 8 bit color, etc) which goes directly from a Panasonic DMP-BD30 player to a Panasonic TH-50PZ770 plasma TV.
Audio is done via a digital co ax from player to a Tag processor, which does not have HDMI or BP, so I am limited to Dolby dig 5.1 and standard DTS for now.
So, my interest (at the moment) is not the ability to run the newer HD audio, but picture quality. Would I notice an improvement going to an HDMI 1.3 cable given the above set up?
Thanx!

further down the page I asked if my Monster HDMI 1.1 would be ok with my new Panasonic BD55k player I was getting, or if I needed a 1.3.
I also have the 50" Panasonic plasma, so I hooked it all up a week ago with the same 1.1 cable.
Well everything seems to work fine, even the PITA Viera Link which I soon disabled. However, the picture is not much better than a regular DVD played on my older Denon 2910. Very disapointing.
I do not think the cable is the fault however, I think I need a 1080p TV to really see a big improvement. Maybe a LCD would even be better. The 1080i just dosen't do it.
So if your plasma is not 1080p, I would not worry too much about the cables. I wish I am wrong, but I don't think so.

Allan, good point. My Panasonic is 1080P. I ordered 1.3b cable for the heck of it, but honestly I am not expecting any major improvements there,

Unless there are digital data disruptions, there will be no difference. Monster cable is hopelessly overpriced but is good in quality.
Worry not, Sarah Palin will fix it all in '12
"Monster cable is hopelessly overpriced but is good in quality."
You aint kidding. Was at Best Buy and a cat 2/1.3b HDMI monster cable was on SALE for $120 bucks without tax. The 8 year old kid working there (ok, he might have been 18) told me that only Monster was tested and certified...oh brother. On Amazon, Cables to go, etc, there are cat2/1.3 certified HDMI for $9.95 with free shipping. For that cost, I will drop the 10 bucks and see if I notice any difference in picture quality, and even if I don't, will have the cable when/if I upgrade the processor in the future.

Be sure to have a return privilege if you can't see a difference.

Considering some net based places have such a cable for like 20 bucks, it seems an easy one to try. Was just reading how 1.3 was supposed to have deeper colors, etc. but don't have any need for it as far as newer HD audio is concerned. Will have to update the processor some day....
