Run the audio to the receiver and send one of the receiver's Line Outs to the TV. That way, you're sure the receiver gets the best audio quality from the Blu-ray player without the TV playing "middle man".

So, to review. The audio out from Blu ray (RCA)to the marantz 2325 receiver, then line out from the marantz to the panasonic plasma, correct?
By the way, will the blue ray remote control the volume?

No reason to send the line out from the Marantz to the plasma since you will get the sound from the Marantz via the speakers connected to it. Run HDMI for video from the player to the plasma.
The player remote will control the volume from the player but the Marantz VC will also control all the inputs.
Also, speaker wire cannot be used for line level interconnects even if you put RCA connectors on it.

How will the player control the volume? I didn't know Sony was putting variable line outs on their Blu-ray players.
In my setup, the highest quality source -- the player's line out -- goes straight to the receiver (no middle-man). The receiver then controls the volume to the speakers: that's the highest quality connection to them (rather than the TV) with the components listed. By running a Line Out (Tape out, etc) from the receiver to the TV, the TV can get the sound from the receiver for those times where the "big" speakers aren't needed (like watching the news).

You may be right. I had assumed that, if the remote had volume buttons, it would affect the analog outs. OTOH, I never tried it (except on some old CD players).

Mebbe. If he has to power up the receiver, he might as well use the speakers.
Many player remotes have these, but they usually control a few functions of the same brand (or multi-brand, if it's a better remote) TVs or receivers. The remote that came with my Panasonic BD-35 Blu-ray player has both volume and channel buttons for a TV and volume buttons for a receiver.
My "watching the news" comment was a brain fart. Please excuse me.
To completely control the volume with a remote. Obviously, the Marantz has no remote...I've been there with a remote that mutes the TV speakers but I have to manually mute the big speakers with the receiver VC. Not an issue with movies, just for commercials. Hopefully the blue ray can control it all.
Meanwhile, I've decided to move my audio rack 5' closer to the TV/blue ray/speaker area. Should improve everything and cost less to connect...

about the interconnects, given it's 15-20' from the blue ray to the marantz, what's the best cable to use?
